Thoughts from your Pastor,
For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limits. John 3:34
On behalf of our regular visitors, members, the PNC and the Session it is my pleasure to introduce and extend a heartfelt welcome to Rev. Dave Omerod and his wife Barbara as Dave begins his Call at Philadelphia. Rev. Omerod is the son of the late Rev. & Mrs. John Omerod. Rev. John pastored many Presbyterian churches in Illinois and Ohio. Dave and wife Barbara live in Newnan. They have two daughters, Heather (Don) Moore and Bridgette (Paul) Kemink and five grandchildren. Dave received his BS degree in Education from Ohio University and his Masters of Divinity from the Pittsburg Theological Seminary and has continued his Doctoral Studies at Columbia Seminary. He was ordained on May 19, 1981. During his 36 year career he has served 16 churches in various capacities including the start up of 4 new churches where he served as Organizing/Installed Pastor. His largest church had a membership of 800 and the smallest had 50. His most recent call was with the First Presbyterian Church of Jonesboro. Dave’s strengths include leading with integrity, honesty and trust. Envisioning with the congregation and applying the gospel to everyday life are some of his key strengths. His leadership style includes mentoring individuals and teams within the congregation. He enables the Session and congregation to find solutions to difficult problems, encouraging a win/win collaboration of ideas. He believes in communicating well through friendly, open and candid sharing. He further believes that the more the congregation knows, the better decisions they make and the healthier they become. Dave and Barbara met in Columbus, Ohio where they were both attending school. They were married on August 6, 1966. Dave enjoys working out at the gym, working crossword and Sudoku puzzles. One of his favorite foods is strawberries and I have it on good word that he has been known to visit the desert table at pot luck’s prior to visiting the main food table. He and Barbara enjoy visiting their children (Michigan and North Carolina). They also enjoy cruising. They have visited the UK and their bucket list includes a visit to Austria, Hungary and Budapest. Barbara has worked in the legal profession for 35 plus years. She became certified as a Legal Assistant in Florida and certified as a Paralegal by the North Carolina and Utah State Bar Associations. She currently serves as President of the Newnan-Coweta Art Association (“NCAA”). She is also a board member of the Friends of the Coweta County Libraries. She is an accomplished artist and her pastel “Going Home in Amish County” was awarded “Top Ten” at the Eighth Annual NCAA Juried Art Show. Her work, including pastels, one-of-a-kind greeting cards and hand-made costume jewelry is on display at the Corner Arts Gallery in Newnan. She also teaches classes at the gallery. Additional information is available at www.newcaa.com/galleries/barbaraomerod/ index.html We know that you are a man of God sent to lead and help us grow in our walk with the Lord. We hope that you will be blessed in your ministry here as you serve God’s call in your life. Thank you for being willing to do what is right by God, and for sharing the truth in the Bible with us.
